HistoryInception
Incorporated in 1981, Blood Bank Computer Systems, Inc. (BBCS), formerly known as Software Brokers Inc., (SBI) was contracted by Cascade Regional Blood Services in 1983 to locate a donor center software application. When none was found, BBCS and CRBS partnered to develop a new type of blood banking software. The software was designed to integrate all the functions of a community blood bank. The Blood Bank Control System was implemented in 1987 on the IBM System 36. Within the next two years, it was in full production at Cascade Regional Blood Services and the second blood bank as well. IBM’s new powerful midrange system, the AS/400 arrived on the market in 1989. BBCS migrated its software to this new platform, thus adding stability, enhanced functionality, and the increased security that the blood banking industry required. BBCS added several new modules to its application in 1990. The application was modified in 1993 to enhance client control in the decision making process. Clients were given the opportunity to customize the application using table files. The FDA designated blood bank software a regulated medical device in 1994. BBCS embraced the new regulations and began remanufacturing the software to meet the new FDA standards. The Blood Bank Control System, in its entirety (both the donor and patient modules) was 510(k) cleared by the FDA on October 15, 1997 under the following number: BK960044. Present Currently the Blood Bank Control System solution is the choice for 29 ‘primary’ facilities with numerous satellite locations nationwide, supporting over 1.3 million units annually. The Blood Bank Control System continues to evolve through input from our clients. At BBCS, it has always been our philosophy to listen to the blood banking and transfusion professionals that work with the application everyday. Future BBCS has been at the forefront of blood banking software innovation and has strived to develop products that will meet the needs of the blood banking industry well into the future. BBCS will remain a pivotal player in this industry, as we look forward to future product releases and future growth. BBCS anticipates providing the same quality products to a global market. Our objective is to increase our collected units drawn from between 50% - 100%. |
